The Perfect Match

On Thursday, October 8 The Evergreen State College was presented with an Outstanding Employer Award by the Community Employment Alliance (CEA). Evergreen was one of two finalists to receive an award from the five employers Morningside nominated for 2015.  The award is a result of the work through which Project SEARCH trains students with disabilities.

Project SEARCH is run in partnership with the Olympia School District, The Evergreen State College and Morningside. Launched in 2009, Project SEARCH is designed for students in their final year of high school interested in gaining independence and employment after graduation. Students apply to the program, showing a sincere desire and aptitude to learn job skills in a workplace internship.

Students cycle through three 10 week internships. The placements are determined by interest and aptitude surveys, helping students understand what they might want to do for employment in the future. Students are on TESC campus full time and “on the job” four hours a day, Monday through Thursday.

Fridays are devoted to life skills trainings including Intercity Transit training, CPR certification, and uniform shopping. Job search, communication and interview skills, resume writing and application completion are also taught.

Over the span of the program the college has hired graduates and ARAMARK the food service program located on campus has hired students even before they complete their year of training. We are so thrilled with their achievement and honored to be part of such a great team.
